Neil Diamond adds shows, raises funds for Ike relief
Neil Diamond has added a pair of new dates to his current concert trek since last check, and has also been busy raising money for victims of last month's deadly Hurricane Ike.
The singer--who continues the run tonight (10/16) in Dallas--shows two new shows at the end of his itinerary: a Jan. 2 concert in Las Vegas, followed by a Jan. 4 appearance in Ontario, CA. The full itinerary is shown below.
On the road, Diamond is mixing classic hits from his massive catalog with new material from his May release, "Home Before Dark."
"From the first song, I know what my last song is going to be," the singer said in a recent teleconference. "All I have to do is fill in the blanks for the next two hours, imagining how the audience is going to respond. ... Does it leave the audience feeling satiated?"
The Rick Rubin-produced "Home After Dark" became Diamond's first-ever No. 1 album in the US earlier this year, topping The Billboard 200 chart with sales of more than 146,000 copies in its first week and making Diamond, at age 67, the oldest performer to ever have a No. 1 record.
Diamond recently pledged all of the proceeds from merchandise sales at his Oct. 14 concert in Houston to benefit the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund, topping his offer by telling his audience during the show that he would match any amount they spend on merchandise that night. The contribution totaled more than $200,000 toward relief efforts for Gulf Coast residents affected by Hurricane Ike.
