Reverend Horton Heat rocks into 2009
Hard-touring psychobilly outfit Reverend Horton Heat has added a few more dates to its extensive 2008 tour, and stretched the outing well into next year.
Since last check, the rockers have tacked on a run of Texas shows starting this Friday (10/17) in Houston, as well as a Dec. 9 Chicago gig. After a short break following their New Year's Eve performance in Austin, TX, the bandmates will launch into a run of Colorado and California dates that extend through late February. Reverend Horton Heat's current schedule, listed below, includes nearly 60 clubs and theaters throughout the US.
Fellow psychobilly outfit Nashville Pussy is opening this year's shows, with Reckless Kelly and Backyard Tire Fire also appearing on select dates. Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Throw Rag, and Manic Hispanic will take turns supporting the 2009 outing. Details about which acts appear on each date are available at the Rev's website.
On tour, Reverend Horton Heat is collecting donations for Nothing But Nets, an organization that buys mosquito nets and ships them to Africa, where at least 3 million children a year die of malaria, according to a blog posting from Jim "Reverend Horton" Heath.
The band--comprising guitarist/vocalist Heath, upright bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer Paul Simmons--released its most recent proper studio album, "Revival," in 2004 and followed that in 2005 with the group's first-ever Christmas offering, "We Three Kings." Last year saw the release of a 15-song set titled "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Reverend Horton Heat," which features tracks from the trio's two releases on Interscope: 1996's "It's Martini Time" and 1998's "Space Heater."
Heath has also spent time this year working on his side-project, Reverend Organdrum, which focuses on vintage American music. The trio, featuring five-time Grammy-winner Tim Alexander on Hammond organ and Todd Soesbe on drums, released its debut album, "Hi-Fi Stereo," in January.
