The 88 heads out with major-label debut
Los Angeles pop-rock trio The 88 is gearing up to support its major-label debut with a tour of the western US next month.
The band will kick things off with a Halloween performance on KCRW radio's "Morning Becomes Eclectic," and follow that with a Nov. 1 record release party in West Hollywood, CA. The outing will continue with nine more dates in the West through mid-November. Details are listed below.
The 88 has a big holiday season planned to drum up excitement behind its Island Records debut, "Not Only ... But Also," which will hit digital outlets Oct. 21 and brick-and-mortar stores Oct. 28. The set combines high-energy post-punk with the sounds of the British invasion, '70s glam, garage-band psychedelia, funk and soul. To bring it all together, the band tapped the production talents of Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Replacements) and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds (Eric Clapton, Madonna). A couple of tunes are streaming at The 88's MySpace page.
Songs from the forthcoming record have already been featured in primetime television shows including "90210" and "Gossip Girl," as well as national advertising spots for Sears and Target. That's nothing new for the previously independent pop-rockers, who have scored more than 40 music placements in films, TV shows and ads.
The bandmates--vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Keith Slettedahl, keyboardist/songwriter Adam Merrin and drummer Anthony Zimmitti--hope their newfound major-label status propels them to a new level of success, but they're not changing their indie work ethic.
"We've been wearing the same suits for the last couple of years, so it's nice to get some new stuff," Merrin said with a laugh, according to The 88's bio. "We're still the same band that works very hard and takes the songs seriously. We're just hoping to spread the music to more people than we could've reached on our own, especially on an international level."
