Rehab brings 'Bartender' singalong to the Southeast
Fresh off a stint with Kid Rock, Southern hip-hop quintet Rehab is mounting a tour of the Southeast to reacquaint fans with its newly re-released album, "Graffiti the World."
Fellow Atlanta hip-hip/rock outfit Heavy Mojo will join Rehab on the 20-city trek, which is set to launch Oct. 8 in Myrtle Beach, SC, and wrap Nov. 13 in Valdosta, GA. The itinerary is listed below.
"Graffiti the World" was originally released in 2005, but excitement behind the Rehab single "Bartender Song" (off of 2000's "Southern Discomfort") would not die down, so the band decided to re-record the tune for a 2008 version of the album.
"'Bartender Song' was becoming almost this cult thing," Rehab founder Danny Boone said in the group's bio. "Fans knew the words at every show. It was becoming like Billy Joel's 'Piano Man' or something. People were using it to close bars. It became the song of choice for 'Last Call,' touching a nerve in almost everyone who heard it."
The 2008 version of "Graffiti the World," released on Universal Republic in July, also includes a couple of new tracks. The set broke into The Billboard 200 and "Bartender Song" has been a hit on pop, mainstream- and modern-rock charts all summer. The tune has logged nearly 3 million plays at Rehab's MySpace page.
"We always thought 'Bartender Song (Sittin' At a Bar)' was a hit song, but our old label didn't agree and was not interested in pushing it," Boone explained in a statement. "So we decided to re-record it with better sounds and give it to Universal Republic because they believed in us. It's truly a unique situation when a band has to cover their own song to make it work."
Rehab is also getting ready to release its next single, "Last Tattoo."
