Janet Jackson shelves more shows
An undisclosed illness has forced Janet Jackson to postpone three more shows on her "Rock Witchu" arena tour.
In an e-mail over the weekend, the superstar's publicist told the Associated Press that Jackson would postpone shows in Greensboro, NC (10/4); Atlanta (10/5); and Sunrise, FL (10/7). The singer said in a statement that she arrived in Greensboro with the intention of performing Saturday but a local doctor advised her to bow out after it became "evident" that she was not fully recovered, according to AP.
Just before Jackson's Sept. 29 gig in Montreal, she became "suddenly ill" and was taken to the hospital. In addition to the last-minute cancellation in Montreal, the mystery illness forced the performer to nix early October shows in Boston and Philadelphia.
Jackson has asked fans to keep their tickets for the postponed shows, saying her promoter is working to reschedule the dates, according to AP. The next gig on the books is Oct. 11 in Uncasville, CT. The remaining itinerary is listed below.
The "Rock Witchu" tour, which launched Sept. 10, is Jackson's first outing in seven years. The 42-year-old pop star is supporting her 10th studio effort, "Discipline," which topped The Billboard 200 in March--her sixth album to do so.
Despite the No. 1 debut, Jackson announced last month that she was leaving Island Def Jam after a year because sales of "Discipline" failed to meet her expectations, according to various reports. A statement issued by her management company said the singer will "have autonomy over her career without the restrictions of a label system." However, her current Live Nation-promoted tour with LL Cool J has some people speculating that she'll be the next performer to sign an all-inclusive deal with the mega music conglomerate.
