Susan Tedeschi works new album
Blues singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi will hit the road next month to showcase material from her forthcoming album, "Back to the River."
Tedeschi's outing is set to launch Oct. 9 in Ridgefield, CT, and visit 20 cities in the eastern half of the US through late November. She's also looking ahead to January, when she and her husband, Derek Trucks, will perform on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, which leaves from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and sails through the Eastern Caribbean. Tedeschi's full itinerary is listed below and information about the cruise is available at her website.
The Grammy-nominated performer co-wrote all but one of the songs on the 11-track "Back to the River," which is due Oct. 28. The set features song-writing credits by a wide range of collaborators including swamp-blues veteran Tony Joe White, up-and-coming singer/songwriter Sonya Kitchell, songwriter/producer John Leventhal and Gary Louris of the Jayhawks.
Tedeschi's most recent studio album, 2005's "Hope and Desire," earned her a Grammy nomination in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category. That record was a departure for the songwriter/guitarist, who decided to sing covers of obscure soul tunes and hand over axe duties to young guitar hero Doyle Bramhall II and Trucks, who fronts his own group and also plays lead guitar for The Allman Brothers Band.
Tedeschi was thrust into the spotlight with her 1998 breakthrough album, "Just Won't Burn." The independent record broke into The Billboard 200 and scored the musician a Best New Artist Grammy nomination alongside such unlikely company as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Macy Gray and Kid Rock.
Her subsequent release, 2002's "Wait For Me," earned Tedeschi two more Grammy nods.
