Tina Turner shakes out new tour dates
Tina Turner has extended her upcoming comeback tour, a globe-spanning trek that will keep the 68-year-old performer on the road for more than half a year.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and eight-time Grammy winner kicks off the North American portion of the outing Oct. 1 in Kansas City, MO. New additions to the schedule include dates in Dallas (10/26) and Houston (10/27), and a Dec. 1 show in New York's Madison Square Garden.
Turner has also added second nights in several cities, including Atlanta (11/9-10), Washington, DC (11/23-24) and Toronto (12/12-13). Following the December shows, Turner will head overseas for a European run that stretches through next spring. US and Canadian dates are shown below; Turner's international itinerary can be found at her website.
Tickets for the new shows in Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, DC, will go on sale to the public beginning Sept. 15.
Although she unofficially retired from touring eight years ago, Turner--who appeared at last February's Grammy Awards ceremony, performing "Proud Mary" with Beyonce--announced her comeback plans in May on an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
"The girls and I are dancing every day, 8 to 10 hours a day," Turner said in a press statement. "It's feeling super. I can't wait to get started!"
The singer is planning to release a tour-companion CD on Sept. 30, the day before the tour gets underway. The 18-track "Tina!" features songs the legendary singer plans to perform during her upcoming concerts, including hits from throughout her career and two new and exclusive tracks, "It Would Be a Crime" and "I'm Ready."
Turner's most recent studio album, "Twenty Four Seven," surfaced in 1999. Last fall, the eight-time Grammy winner released "Celebrate: The Best of Tina Turner," a 95-minute DVD taken from a 1999 concert that celebrated her 60th birthday.
