Supremes Tour Promoter Still Canceling Shows One At A Time
Dates for the Diana Ross and the Supremes tour continue to be cancelled by the tour’s promoter one show at a time despite a recent announcement from Ross herself that the entire tour had been cancelled.
An unnamed source in the Ross camp on July 11 told liveDaily that the tour’s personnel had disbanded, and that none of the remaining dates would take place. A spokesperson for SFX said on Monday (7/17), however, that all of the remaining shows were still scheduled to take place, but added that they may be cancelled at any time.
On July 10, Ross issued a statement in which she claimed that tour promoter TNA and parent company SFX Entertainment had cancelled the remaining dates on her tour, originally scheduled to run through Aug. 5. The announcement came after three concerts were cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
Since Ross’ July 10 announcement, five shows were each cancelled individually. Tickets for the eight remaining dates on the tour’s itinerary--including Wednesday’s (7/19) show in Minneapolis, Minn., and Friday’s (7/21) show in Denver, Colo.--were still on sale at press time.
The Diana Ross and the Supremes' Return to Love tour was plagued by controversy and poor ticket sales from the beginning. The tour’s lineup came under fire when it was announced that original Supreme Mary Wilson and early member Cindy Birdsong would not be participating. Ticket prices for the tour--which generally ranged from $40 to $250--were also criticized.
