Great Big Sea adds new leg to headlining run
Folk-rockers Great Big Sea have added another leg to their upcoming tour, which means the hard-working band will now stay out on the road at least through December.
The Celtic-influenced Canadian outfit kicks off the run Aug. 15 in Buffalo, NY, and now shows more than 50 dates on its schedule for the second half of the year. The new shows will all take place in the band's native land, concluding in early December with a pair of dates in Vancouver (12/3-4). Details can be found below.
The band continues to back its ninth and most recent studio set, "Fortune's Favour," which hit stores last month in the US and in June in Canada. "Walk On The Moon," the lead single in Canada, hit airwaves in April, scoring the group its first Canadian charting song since 1999.
The album follows 2005's "The Hard and the Easy." The group also released a live CD/DVD in late 2006 entitled "Courage & Patience & Grit," featuring 26 songs captured from a live performance in Belleville, Ontario.
Great Big Sea scored initial success in Canada with its platinum debut, "Up." The group was subsequently signed to Sire Records, and band members Alan Doyle, Sean McCann and Bob Hallett built upon a strong cult following with the release of their next effort, "Play," which also went platinum in Canada.
