Rachael Yamagata introduces new music on the road

Singer/songwriter Rachael Yamagata will preview songs from her sophomore album during a US outing this fall.

The headlining trek is set to launch Sept. 20 in Asbury Park, NJ, and hit a dozen clubs and theaters from Boston to Los Angeles through early October. Two Sept. 25 shows in New York City are already sold out, according to a press release. The itinerary is included below.

Yamagata' new album, "Elephants ... Teeth Sinking Into Heart," is due Oct. 7 on Warner Bros. Records. The 15-track set is divided into two parts, with "Elephants" being the darker, more vulnerable of the two and "Teeth Sinking Into Heart" showing the artist's grittier, cynical side, according to a press release. Both are underscored by Yamagata's husky alto and expressive piano/guitar playing.

The majority of the record was produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley), with John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band) taking the reins on a couple of songs. Guest performers include singer/songwriters Ray Lamontagne and Azure Ray's Maria Taylor.

Yamagata began to appear on the public's radar in 2005 when songs from her full-length debut, "Happenstance," turned up in a host of films and television shows. Over the last three years, she has also popped up on albums by Lamontagne, Ryan Adams, Jason Mraz, Bright Eyes and Mandy Moore. Her tours have included runs with Adams, Lamontagne, Moore, Liz Phair, Gomez and, most recently, Sara Bareilles.

Yamagata was released from her original record deal with RCA following changes at the label, according to Billboard. She signed with Warner Bros. earlier this summer.

In a blog posting at her MySpace page, the singer thanked fans for hanging with her during the down time.

"It's been a long road of red tape trails, but I'm very excited about the new team of peeps and I can finally say that we are on our way!" she wrote.
