Atmosphere squeezes more dates out of 'Lemons'
Hip-hop duo Atmosphere has rolled out more headlining dates this fall behind their most recent album, "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S--- Gold."
The pair--vocalist Slug (real name Sean Daley) and production wiz Ant (Anthony Davis)--kicks off the run Sept. 10 in Fargo, ND, and plans to remain on the road through the first week of October. The 24-city tour will feature support from special guests Abstract Rude, Blueprint and DJ Rare Groove; dates are included below.
"When Life Gives You Lemons ...," Atmosphere's sixth studio album, debuted in April at No. 5 on The Billboard 200, selling about 36,000 copies during its first week in stores. The set follows 2005's "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having," which snagged the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and reached No. 66 on The Billboard 200.
Chief lyricist Slug took a more reality-based approach with the album's topics compared to the group's previous work, which tended to focus on fictional storytelling, according to the rapper.
"There has been tons of fictionalizing on all of the older albums," he told LiveDaily earlier this year. "But in today's 'keep it real' mentality, people don't seem to want to believe that. So I did make an extra effort to wear the fictionalizing on my sleeve, yes, mostly so that no one would misinterpret what and why I do what I do.
"I'm a storyteller--not a liar. Lies depend on personal agenda and motives. [The] stories are there for everyone to manipulate--the teller, the listener, etc."
