Ryan Adams & The Cardinals map fall headlining shows
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals have added a run of headline dates this fall as they eye a fall release for the group's forthcoming new studio set.
Adams and his band--Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Chris Feinstein (bass), Jon Graboff (pedal steel) and Brad Pemberton (drums)--kick off the trek Aug. 23 in San Francisco, followed by a stretch of support dates in the Pacific Northwest and Canada opening for Oasis . Another slate of headlining shows begins Sept. 25 in Schenectady, NY, and runs through early October. All dates are below.
In a recent posting on a Ryan Adams fansite, the singer announced that The Cardinals would be working on a new album in France, titled "The Cardinals III/IV." The album "will reflect the Cardinals you hear live, during those two-set nights," Adams wrote. The album is "tentatively" scheduled for release this fall, according to a press release.
The singer also revealed that he's working on a new solo album for release next year, but that it will not be "the kind you will be used to. I want to make a record with strings, an old style crooner record (no not cheesy) but something like 'For Only The Lonely' if it had been made at Tuff Gong or something. Beats more rooted in soul and dance hall and real soul style."
Adams' most recent album, last year's "Easy Tiger," was his first studio effort since his prolific output of 2005, which saw the May release of a double album titled "Cold Roses" and the September release of "Jacksonville City Nights," both of which are credited to Adams and The Cardinals. A third set, titled "29," followed in December of that year, and was billed as a solo set from Adams.
A Cardinals EP, "Follow the Lights," appeared last October. The set includes two new songs--"Follow The Lights" and “My Love For You Is Real"--along with live-in-studio versions of several other songs, as well a cover of Alice In Chains' "Down in a Hole."
