George Jones expands tour ahead of duets album
Country music legend George Jones continues to add dates to his ongoing tour schedule, which now stretches into December.
The 76-year-old performer, who has been playing all over the US since last summer, will resume touring July 18 in Myrtle Beach, SC, and he'll visit Alabama and Tennessee before heading out next month for a week's worth of shows in Ireland. Jones will return to the states in mid-August for a string of dates that will take him from the Midwest to the East Coast into October. He also has a couple of Oklahoma performances on his schedule in early December. An updated itinerary is listed below.
In addition to all the road work, Jones is gearing up for a new album of never-before-heard duets. The recordings on "George Jones - Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets" range from the mid-'70s with his late ex-wife Tammy Wynette to a 2007 recording with his daughter Georgette.
Other duet partners featured on the record include Keith Richards, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Mark Knopfler, Marty Stuart, Leon Russell, Mark Chesnutt, Shelby Lynne, and Tavern Choir with Jim Lauderdale. Bandit Records is expected to release the album Aug. 19.
Jones has sustained a music career for more than 50 years and continues to headline nearly 100 concerts annually. The two-time Grammy winner has upwards of 1,000 songs under his belt and has charted 166 singles--more than any other artist in any music format, according to his bio.
Jones' 1980 hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today," a constant on "best country song of all time" lists, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame last year.
