Sinead O'Connor, Others Release Landmark Charity Single
LONDON--Artists including Sinead O'Connor and Coldcut have collaborated on the first charity single to have been recorded and sold solely over the Internet. Proceeds from the cover of Bob Marley's "Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)" will benefit British charity War Child, which helps youngsters growing up in international war zones.
According to Coldcut frontman Matt Black, the song was recorded simultaneously in different studios around the world in just one hour. (Coldcut has claimed to be the first band ever to release a complete downloadable MP3 single from its official website.) Other artists contributing to the project include members of Aswad, Dreadzone and Thomas Dolby.
The single can be bought from War Child's official website. A further War Child MP3-CD-Rom, with six and a half hours of music, will also be available on the cover of this month's edition of U.K. magazine DJ or from the charity site.
Since launching six years ago, War Child has had a strong association with music, receiving high-profile support from such artists as Paul McCartney, Massive Attack, Radiohead and Luciano Pavarotti.
