Blind Melon plots summer and fall shows
Reunited alt-rockers Blind Melon will keep the wheels turning well into the fall on their first tour in over a decade, an outing that marks the debut of new lead singer Travis Warren.
The group, which has been working the road on and off all year, just set out on a summer leg that, so far, comprises about 20 more dates scattered through the end of August. Following that US stretch, the band plans to mount a Canadian roadtrip that launches in late September and runs through early October. Details are included below.
Another sizable batch of US dates is expected in the fall, according to the band's MySpace page.
Blind Melon disbanded abruptly in 1995 after lead singer Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose, and surprised fans last fall when it announced that original members Glen Graham, Roger Stevens, Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith were regrouping with the Texas-bred Warren.
"We couldn't have planned this and we certainly couldn't have forced this," Smith said in a statement. "It was meant to be and it was meant to be now."
"We weren't waiting around for Travis to show up in our lives," added Thorn. "But when we met Travis, we just knew Blind Melon had to reform and be a band again. We feel so lucky to have this second chance, this new beginning."
Blind Melon's roadwork supports "For My Friends," the group's first new studio collection in 15 years. The set features the cut "Tumblin' Down," which is streaming at the band's MySpace page and is expected to hit radio stations soon, according to the group's blog.
