ZZ Top, Brooks & Dunn team for summer jaunt
Bearded blues-rock will collide with country music this summer as ZZ Top crosses paths with Brooks & Dunn .
The bands, which are currently in the midst of their own separate tours, will come together in early August for a 17-date run across the US and into Canada. The co-bill outing is set to kick off Aug. 1 in Albuquerque, NM, and stretch through mid-September. Details are listed below.
ZZ Top has been busy since spring, touring the US and working on its followup to 2003's "Mescalero." Earlier this year, the group's Billy Gibbons told Billboard that he and his bandmates hoped to finish the set by summer.
In the meantime, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will release their first live concert DVD/Blu-ray disc next week. "Live From Texas" features 17 songs, behind-the-scenes footage, a photo shoot and a poker game during which Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard talk about the band's history.
ZZ Top is wrapping the current leg of its tour this weekend and will start up again in August, mixing its own headlining dates with the Brooks & Dunn outing. The trio's full itinerary can be found at its website.
The co-bill also intertwines with Brooks & Dunn's ongoing "Cowboy Town Tour," which stretches through the end of the year. The country stars' full schedule is posted at their website.
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have been out supporting their latest set, "Cowboy Town," which surfaced in October and landed at No. 4 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. The record has spawned country hits "Proud of the House We Built," "God Must Be Busy" and "Put a Girl in It."
The duo also recently released their first novel, "The Adventures of Slim and Howdy," which is based on the characters that have been traditionally featured in the prosaic liner notes of their albums.
