Steve Earle prolongs the 'Serenade'
Fresh off a month-long UK jaunt, Steve Earle is gearing up to launch the next leg of his North American tour, which has been extended through September.
The Americana singer/songwriter will hit the trail again beginning June 27 in Tucson, AZ, and make his way from the West Coast to the East Coast, stopping in a few Canadian provinces along the way. Since last check, dates have been added in Aspen, CO; Nelsonville, OH; and Buffalo, NY, and a four-night stand was booked in Earle's adopted hometown of New York City.
The performer's wife, singer Allison Moorer, will open the shows and join Earle on stage during his set. DJ Neil McDonald is also traveling with the band, providing the beats heard on Earle's latest album, "Washington Square Serenade."
The set, which surfaced last September, broke into The Billboard 200 and reached No. 10 on the magazine's Top Country Albums chart. It also scored Earle his second Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album.
"Washington Square Serenade," produced by John King of the Dust Brothers (Beck, Beastie Boys), is Earle's first album release since relocating to New York from Nashville, where he had based his career since 1975. The record, which the renegade musician has called "unapologetically personal," pays tribute to the '60s folk revival in New York City. Several songs from the set are streaming at his MySpace page.
Earle also recently released a 20th anniversary edition of his 1988 effort, "Copperhead Road," which raised a middle finger to the country music establishment. The two-disc deluxe version features the original tracks plus 17 live recordings, 11 of which were previously unreleased.
