Brandi Carlile writes new chapter for 'Story'
Singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile continues to juggle her support appearances for Indigo Girls with her own headlining dates throughout the summer months.
The Washington State native, who opened some shows for Sheryl Crow last month, also made several appearances with the Indigos last year.
Altogether the singer will hit 17 cities through August, with the bulk of the appearances headlining ones. Dates are below.
Carlile's most recent studio effort, last year's "The Story," was produced by Grammy-winner T Bone Burnett (Counting Crows, Roy Orbison), and recorded live in the studio.
"When you record to tape, it forces you not to dwell on small imperfections and keep a lot of the things you would usually edit out ... like a weird breath or a strangely sharp note," Carlile explained in her bio. "When I listen back and hear those things now, I'm glad we didn't take them out because they give this album a real human character."
One of the songs on the record, "Cannonball," features Indigo Girls' Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. Carlile also made an appearance on the Girls' latest album, "Despite Our Differences."
"The Story" follows Carlile's 2005 self-titled debut on Columbia Records, which garnered critical acclaim and landed on Rolling Stone's list of "10 Artists to Watch in 2005." The singer found an even wider audience when ABC-TV's hit drama "Grey's Anatomy" showcased three songs from the debut.
The singer announced recently on her MySpace page that she will be heading into the recording studio next month to begin work on a new studio album.
