Dolly Parton maps mid-summer 'Backwoods'' trek
As she promised earlier this year, Dolly Parton has lined up a run of additional US dates this summer in support of her latest CD, "Backwoods Barbie."
The veteran country star, who finished up an initial slate of shows last month, will kick off the mid-summer outing Aug. 1 in San Diego. Six of the seven dates take place on the West Coast, with the run winding down Aug. 13 in Clarkston, MI.
In the intervening months, Parton heads overseas for a European tour running through June and July. Those dates can be found at her website, while her full domestic schedule is included below.
"Backwoods Barbie" is Parton's first new studio set since 2005's "Those Were the Days," and is billed in a press release as her "first album of mainstream country music in 17 years." Released in late February, the collection features nine originals among its 12 tunes.
The album entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 17 after its release, which was Parton's highest debut ever on that list. Additionally, the set peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.
The entertainer issued a press release last month regarding a segment on Sirius Satellite Radio's "The Howard Stern Show" program, during which recordings of her voice reportedly were electronically manipulated to create racist and sexually vulgar comments. "I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me," Parton said in a statement. "In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing."
Parton apologized for the radio show and made it clear she had nothing to do with the segment. "If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it's going to be over this," she said. "Just wanted you to know that I am completely devastated by this."
