Yaz gets 'Reconnected' with more US dates

The US leg of the Yaz reunion tour has doubled in size as fans quickly snap up tickets for the July performances.

The British synth-pop duo--Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke--recently announced they would play their first live dates together in more than 25 years. They'll start next week with a month-long tour of Europe and then launch the US run July 6 in Las Vegas. Double shots in Los Angeles and New York have already sold out, prompting third shows in those markets, according to a press release. The July 7 gig in Oakland, CA, is also sold out.

Since last check, stops have been added in Dallas, Washington, DC, and Costa Mesa, CA, and with the previously announced Chicago date, "The Reconnected Tour" now spans a dozen shows across the US. Stateside concerts are listed below while those overseas can be found at Yaz's website.

To coincide with the outing, the duo will issue a four-disc box set, "In Your Room," which is scheduled to drop July 8 in the US. The package includes remastered versions of Yaz's original studio albums--1982's "Upstairs at Eric's" and 1983's "You and Me Both"--along with b-sides, remixes and a DVD featuring several of the pair's music videos and exclusive interview footage. A limited-edition vinyl 12-inch featuring new dance mixes will also be released to promote the set.

Clarke had just left Depeche Mode when he joined up with Moyet in the early '80s. Though the Yaz partnership lasted for only 18 months, the pair made quite an impression, introducing synthesizer-driven pop to the masses and garnering hit singles including "Don't Go" and "Situation."

"One minute we were recording a demo on a four-track, the next we were on Top Of The Pops," Alison recalled in the band's bio. "It all happened so quickly, I don't think either of us had a chance to enjoy it."

After two albums and 24 concerts, Moyet ended the arrangement to pursue a solo career and Clarke went on to form Erasure with singer Andy Bell. Yaz never toured behind its sophomore set, "You and Me Both," so the upcoming tour will mark the first live performance of that material.

The duo is also considering working together beyond the road trip, according to Clarke.

"I think I'll probably bring the guitar along on tour," he said in a statement. "Maybe we could sit down and try to knock a few tunes out, if it feels right. There are no grand plans and songs don't necessarily just happen. But the guitar's there if the moment arises."
