Indie-rock brother-sister act The Fiery Furnaces [ tickets ] have lined up a headlining outing ahead of the release of the band's first-ever live album, a double-CD due later this summer.

The group, which features siblings Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger on vocals and guitar/piano, respectively, will launch the run May 28 in Sacramento, CA. The 15-city trek will conclude with a July 27 appearance at British Columbia's Pemberton Music Festival. Details are below.

As with its previous tour in January and February, the band will use the shows as part of a project that seeks to "record a series of albums and singles Written in Collaboration with the Citizen-Fan-Audience," according to the Fiery Furnaces' website.

Fans in attendance will be encouraged to give the bandplace "any random piece of paper you might have had in your pocket or purse into the giant ballot box that is the stage" and the band will utilize the materials to write new songs as part of a process the group is calling "DEMOC-ROCK," according to the website.

"Since the Citizen-Fan-Audiences can now get records for Free, via advances in technology (whether bands imagine they are offering them for free or not), it is only fair that CFA’s CFA's help bands write songs," the group added.

Meanwhile, the Friedbergers continue to tour behind their sixth full-length album, "Widow City." Released in October, the album follows 2006's "Bitter Tea."

Due in August is "Remember," a two-disc live album that features 51 trackscuts, and includes live performances from the band's first six studio albums. The set's tracks were recorded between 2005 and 2007.
