Slightly Stoopid preps for 'Tailgate 2008'

Slightly Stoopid is getting ready to take its stealth grooves for another run of shows around the US.

The San Diego, CA-based band is scheduled to play a handful of festivals before launching the 'Tailgate 2008' tour with rock/dub/ska outfit Pepper and Jamaican drum/bass duo Sly & Robbie. That outing is scheduled to launch Aug. 1 in Las Vegas and visit clubs, theaters and sheds from coast to coast through early September. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, blast their favorite tunes and tailgate before the show.

Following 'Tailgate 2008,' Slightly Stoopid will wrap its jaunt with a Sept. 26 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival. The band's full itinerary is listed below.

Slightly Stoopid--which blends styles including reggae, rock, hip-hop and funk--has been touring since last fall to support its latest album, "Chronchitis," which surfaced in August and snagged the No. 2 spot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The set, the group's sixth independent release, features guest artists including Guru of Gang Star, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Money Mark of the Beastie Boys and G. Love.

Slightly Stoopid plans to put out a new full-length album, "Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid," July 22. The set is actually a re-release of the seven-song EP of the same name with additional outtakes, rarities and new studio material, according to a blog at the band's MySpace page.

During their 10-plus year career, the musicians--still in their 20s--have sold more than 300,000 records independently and built a worldwide following of die-hard fans, referred to as Stoopidheads, according to a press release. They were discovered by the late Bradley Nowell of Sublime, who signed Slightly Stoopid to his Skunk Records label when founding members Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald were still in high school.
