Butthole Surfers back on the road for summer shows

Veteran alt-rock eccentrics The Butthole Surfers have lined up a slate of East Coast and UK headlining shows this summer.

The Texas outfit will kick off the US portion of the run June 24 in Asbury Park, NJ. The current schedule shows only four shows in the US, with the band heading to the UK in early July for an overseas stretch. North American dates are below; the international schedule can be found at the band's website.

Surfers' frontman Gibby Haynes and percussionist King Coffey will be joined on the tour by bassist Jeff Pinkus and drummer Teresa Taylor, the rhythm section the band employed for most of the '80s. The outing will mark the first time this particular lineup has played together since 1989, according to a press release.

Founding member and guitarist Paul Leary will not appear on the upcoming European dates owing to prior commitments, according to the band. Instead, the Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars will appear alongside the band on all overseas dates, forming a "virtual Butthole Surfers Orchestra," according to a press release.

The group's most recent studio collection, 2001's "Weird Revolution," was produced by Leary and Rob Cavallo (Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day). The mostly electronic album peaked at No. 130 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The band recently wrestled back the rights to its fifth studio album, 1991's "Piouhgd," from the group's former record label, and has re-released the set on its own Latino Buggerveil imprint, along with the 1989 "Widowermaker" EP, which is included on the same CD. The disc is available for purchase through the band's website.
