The Hold Steady firms up summer trek
Indie rockers The Hold Steady have confirmed a full US summer tour to support their forthcoming album, "Stay Positive."
The 23-date jaunt is scheduled to criss-cross the country, starting June 8 in Chula Vista, CA, and wrapping Aug. 13 in Norfolk, VA. In addition to playing clubs and theaters, the band will perform a few festival shows, including the June 28 Paul Green School of Rock Festival in Philadelphia and the July 19 Pitchfork Festival in Chicago. The Hold Steady will also pop across the Pond for a week's worth of UK gigs in early July. US dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at the band's MySpace page.
Pre-sale tickets for the US shows will be available tomorrow (5/16), and the general public will have access beginning May 20.
The Hold Steady's fourth studio album, "Stay Positive," is due July 15, and the lead single, "Sequestered in Memphis," will be available on iTunes May 20, according to a press release.
The new record, produced by John Agnello (Son Volt, Dinosaur Jr.), came together while the The Hold Steady was touring the world behind 2006's critically lauded "Boys and Girls in America," according to the group's publicist. That outing saw the Brooklyn-based quintet play more than 200 shows in 2007 alone.
"Stay Positive" is said to capture a sort of evolution that finds The Hold Steady becoming more musically complex. On the record, the bandmates experiment with instruments including harpsichord, banjo and talk box, according to a press release.
