Stevie Wonder returns to the road this summer
Stevie Wonder , who made his long-awaited return to touring last year, is back at it again this summer with more than a dozen North American shows booked from coast to coast.
The Motown icon is scheduled to kick things off June 18 in Wantagh, NY, and travel around the eastern US through the end of the month. In July, he'll head West for shows in Colorado, Nevada, California, Washington and British Columbia. Details are listed below.
Wonder's return to the touring circuit after 12 years was inspired in part by his mother, Lula Mae Hardaway, who passed away in 2006. Three of the superstar's biggest hits--"Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" (1970), "Don't Know Why I Love You" (1969) and "I Was Made To Love Her" (1967)--were co-penned by Hardaway. Wonder's next album is expected to be a tribute to her.
His latest set, 2005's "A Time to Love," marked Wonder's first studio album in more than 10 years. It reached No. 5 on The Billboard 200, scored five Grammy nominations and spawned the hit singles "So What the Fuss," "Shelter in the Rain" and "From the Bottom of my Heart." The latter single won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance honors, bringing Wonder's Grammy total to 22.
The legendary performer has racked up more than 30 Top 10 hits and sold upwards of 70 million records worldwide during a career that spans five decades. He's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, and has received the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Over the years, Wonder has also devoted much of his time to raising money for charity and championing for political and social change. He recently made a surprise appearance in Indianapolis to support Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
