Santana's world tour swings West
The guitarist and his namesake band, who have been traveling the world all year, will resume the outing June 20 with a month-long European run. Its next North American jaunt is set to kick off Sept. 6 in Auburn, WA, and visit US and Canadian cities through mid-October. The Salvador Santana Band (led by Carlos Santana's son) will open the trek, which includes several shows around California and Texas, as well as a two-night stand in Los Angeles. North American dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at Santana's website.
This month, the group will take time out to introduce fans to its forthcoming anthology, "Multi Dimensional Warrior," which is due Aug. 5. Santana will take over San Francisco's Fillmore May 20-21 to promote the two-disc set, and the shows will be filmed for future web release, according to the band's website.
"Multi Dimensional Warrior" features one disc comprising 14 vocal performances from albums spanning the '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s, and another with 14 instrumental performances from albums covering the same timeframe. In addition, Carlos Santana has added some new guitar parts to select tracks.
Lately, Santana has been a fixture on pop and adult radio with its latest hit, "Into the Night," featuring Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger. The tune is the lead single from the "Ultimate Santana" hits collection, which surfaced in October and reached No. 8 on The Billboard 200. In addition to "Into the Night," the album features previously unreleased songs "This Boy's Fire" featuring Jennifer Lopez and Baby Bash, "The Game of Love" with Tina Turner and "Interplanetary Party."
Santana's latest set of all-new music is 2005's "All That I Am," which features guest stars including Michelle Branch, Steven Tyler, Mary J. Blige, Los Lonely Boys and Big Boi.
During his nearly four-decade career, Carlos Santana has sold upwards of 90 million records, performed for more than 100 million people, and won 10 Grammys, according to his bio. Nine of those Grammy trophies were awarded for Santana's blockbuster 1999 album, "Supernatural," which has logged sales of more than 25 million.
