Sheryl Crow expands 'Detours' trek
Sheryl Crow has added a whole new leg of US dates to the extensive world tour supporting her latest album, "Detours."
The nine-time Grammy winner will kick things off next week with a handful of theater shows and a headlining performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. She'll move into amphitheaters in May, and play six weeks' worth of shows across the US, with a stop in Toronto, through mid-June. Since last check, Crow has added nearly a dozen dates to the tour's first leg.
The second US leg is set to launch July 24 in Nashville and visit cities from coast to coast through late August. British singer/songwriter James Blunt will support the entire outing, and one of Crow's favorite bands, reggae act Toots & the Maytals, will appear on most dates.
Crow will also sandwich a two-week European jaunt in between the North American runs. Domestic dates are listed below and those across the Pond can be found at Crow's website.
The performer dropped her sixth album, "Detours," in February and snagged the No. 2 spot on The Billboard 200. The record marks the return of producer Bill Bottrell, who helmed Crow's 1993 debut, "Tuesday Night Music Club," which scored three Grammys and has gone seven-times platinum.
"Detours" is a highly personal set of songs inspired by experiences including Crow's very public breakup with Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, her fight with breast cancer and her adoption of a child, as well as the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and environmental issues. Song samples from the album, including lead single "Love is Free," are streaming at her website.
In related news, Crow recently told reporters she expects to work with Fleetwood Mac next year, though Mac's Lindsey Buckingham responded by saying that nothing has been written in stone.
