Van Halen adds new show amid unplanned tour hiatus
Currently in the midst of an unplanned hiatus due to an unspecified health issue afflicting guitarist Eddie Van Halen, the band plans to resume its roadwork with a just-added April 17 performance in Reno, NV. Tickets for the gig--which will be the band's first in that city since 1992, according to a press release--go on sale Sunday (3/30), according to Van Halen's website.
The group's April 19 headlining performance at Tiger Woods' annual Tiger Jam charity event in Las Vegas will follow, and the group has a total of about 20 dates lined up through early June. Details are included below.
Most of the currently scheduled shows are makeup dates for March and April dates that the band postponed so that Eddie Van Halen could undergo "medical tests to define a course of treatment" for an undisclosed ailment, according to a press release issued at the time. The group has not made public any information about what prompted the medical attention in the first place.
Eddie Van Halen has, in recent years, been treated for cancer, alcoholism and substance abuse.
Van Halen hit the road last fall with frontman David Lee Roth at the helm for the first time in more than two decades. The outing ended up being one of 2007's Top 5 highest-grossing tours, prompting the group to book a new leg of shows that kicked off in late January.
