Crowded House takes up residencies in America
Instead of playing single dates at large venues, the band will focus on multiple shows at clubs and theaters in major markets around the US and Canada. The tour is scheduled to launch April 28 in New York City and wrap May 17 in Los Angeles. Details are listed below. Crowded House has also confirmed dates for a month-long European jaunt in June and July; info on those shows can be found at the group's website.
More than a decade after its farewell concert, Crowded House returned to the scene with last year's "Time on Earth," which topped UK charts and reached No. 46 on The Billboard 200. Several songs from the album are streaming at the band's MySpace page.
Frontman Neil Finn and bassist Nick Seymour reconnected following the 2005 suicide death of Crowded House drummer Paul Hester. The next year, the two started work on what was originally planned as a Finn solo project.
"[Finn] realized we had this chemistry that hadn't gone away," Seymour told LiveDaily in an August interview. "When it came time to reconsider the idea of touring on a lot of the songs we had recorded, I think he realized that he was kind of missing the band or missing being in a band."
They put in a call to keyboardist/guitarist Mark Hart and hired a new drummer, Matt Sherrod, to reform Crowded House and finish the album as a band project. The group has since performed more than 70 live shows in 12 countries, according to a blog posting at its MySpace page.
Meanwhile, Crowded House has been in Auckland working on its next album, a release date for which has not been set.
