Devotchka plots 'Mad' road trip behind new LP
Indie folk/punk outfit Devotchka has mapped out a spring headlining tour to support its fifth studio set, "A Mad & Faithful Telling."
The run follows a European tour that takes up most of April before the Denver-based group returns to the US in time for an April 26 appearance at Southern California's Coachella music festival. The headlining portion of the trek kicks off two days later with an April 28 show in San Francisco.
The month-long, 23-city outing winds down in late May after an extensive run in the eastern half of the country. Dates are below.
"A Mad & Faithful Telling," which hit store shelves earlier this week, is the group's first full-length effort since 2004's "How It Ends." The group released the "Curse Your Little Heart" EP in 2006, which featured mainly cover versions of songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Velvet Underground.
Devotchka formed in the late '90s, originally as a backing group for burlesque shows, touring at one point with fetish model (and ex-wife of Marilyn Manson) Dita Von Teese. The group toured steadily, slowly building a following after releasing its debut album, 2000's "SuperMelodrama." A few years ago, the band attracted the attention of film directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who asked Devotchka to provide the original score for the hit film "Little Miss Sunshine."
