'Weird Al' Yankovic gets back to 'Lynwood' this summer
"Weird Al" Yankovic will be back on the road this summer to finish up his "Straight Outta Lynwood Tour."
The parody king has assembled a 25-city itinerary that takes him through clubs, theaters, casinos, amphitheaters, fairs and festivals across the US and Canada from late June to late August. The outing, which is scheduled to launch June 27 in Henderson, NV, includes two-night stands in Rama, Ontario, and Coquitlam, British Columbia. Details are listed below.
Yankovic continues to support his 2006 release, "Straight Outta Lynwood," which debuted at No. 10 on The Billboard 200, making it his first Top 10 album. The record's lead single, "White & Nerdy" (a parody of Chamillionaire's hit "Ridin"), also became the first Top 10 single of the funnyman's nearly three-decade career.
Last year's "Straight Outta Lynwood Tour" spanned 119 shows across the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Yankovic said in a blog entry at his MySpace page. Since wrapping the run in October, the performer has been taking it easy but recently found time to appear in an episode of FOX-TV's "The Simpsons" and direct the "Mixed Up S.O.B." video for The Presidents of the United States of America.
Yankovic added that he hasn't started his next album yet, but assured fans, "Don't worry, I will!"
The singer, who started his career by sending homemade tapes to the nationally syndicated radio jockey Dr. Demento, has become the best-selling novelty song producer of all time, according to a press release. He has sold more than 12 million albums and won three Grammys.
