The Police expand reunion finale

March 5, 2008 09:03 AM
Rock icons The Police have added a few more dates to their upcoming North American jaunt, which is expected to be the grand finale of their 30th anniversary reunion.

Since last check, Grand Rapids, MI, has made it onto the itinerary and second nights have been added in Los Angeles, the Denver area and Wantagh, NY, where the tour is scheduled to wrap in early August.

The Police will kick things off May 1 in Ottawa, Ontario, and spend the rest of the month trekking across the US. A European tour follows in June and a second batch of US shows is set for July and August. The updated North American itinerary is listed below and the European schedule can be found at the band's website.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters will fill the opening slot on the North American outing, which will visit a number of markets that The Police missed during last year's tour. Most of the new dates will go on sale to the general public beginning this weekend.

Last year's Police reunion moved more than 2.5 million tickets and turned out to be 2007's top-grossing tour, according to a press release. Amidst all the hype, speculation had run rampant that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers would record a new album, but they recently quashed those rumors, telling various reporters they have no plans to work together once the tour wraps.

The trio released its last studio album, "Synchronicity," nearly 25 years ago. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers celebrated their 30th anniversary last year with a self-titled, two-CD best-of collection on A&M Records, and they reportedly have plans to release a live DVD comprising recent concert footage shot in South America.
