Radiohead adds another US festival to tour plans
The Aug. 22-24 fest will tap Jack Johnson --who also teams up with Radiohead as co-headliner of New Jersey's All Points West festival earlier in August--and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to lead the billing for the event's other two nights.
Additional details for the event are currently sketchy, with promoters promising to reveal a "seemingly endless selection of music and activities" for the festival over the coming weeks, including ticketing information. Fans can sign up for a mailing list at the event's official website to receive email updates about the fest.
According to an article in the San Francisco Weekly, documents filed by the event's promoters, Another Planet Entertainment, suggest a gathering of more than 160,000 people in the park over the weekend. The concert will take place over five main performance stages, according to promoters, with acts representing a wide range of musical genres.
The "arts" portion of the event will feature the work of both traditional and new media artists, according to organizers, with a spotlight on local art. The local angle will carry over to the concessions area, with an emphasis on fare being provided by local eateries.
The famed park has played host to many large scale concerts in the past, including Peter Gabriel's WOMAD Festival and the Guinness Fleadh Festival, as well as large-scale single performances by Pearl Jam, Neil Young, The Dave Matthews Band and others.
