The Raveonettes spread the 'Lust' across America
Danish noir-pop duo The Raveonettes have a new album just out and will support it with a monthlong tour that launches tonight (2/29) in San Diego.
The trek, said to be the group's only North American outing this year, will head from the West Coast to the East Coast, stopping in several Canadian provinces along the way. The Raveonettes will also spend five nights in Austin, TX, for the South by Southwest festival. Details are listed below.
The duo--Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo--broke into the current Billboard 200 chart with their self-produced, self-recorded fourth album, "Lust Lust Lust," which also snagged the No. 1 spot on the magazine's Top Heatseekers chart.
"Lust Lust Lust," which follows 2005's "Pretty in Black," builds on the signature mix of vintage pop, fuzzed-out guitar, surf-punk twang and sweet boy-girl harmonies that have made The Raveonettes a critics' darling. Highlights include "Aly Walk With Me," which marries loud, distorted guitars with a hypnotizing groove, and "You Want The Candy," which showcases the band at its most bubblegum. Those songs and a couple of others from the record are streaming at The Raveonettes' MySpace page.
Wagner and Foo met in Copenhagen and founded the band based on their mutual disenchantment of music in their homeland. They burst onto the new garage-rock scene in 2002, starting at New York City punk mecca CBGB's.
