Little Big Town finds 'A Place to Land' and then some
Country quartet Little Big Town has a relentless touring schedule through the summer, as it headlines its own shows, supports a few big-name acts and plays the festival/fair circuit across North America.
From now through late April, the band will mix a few of its own gigs with slots opening for George Strait, Martina McBride and Sugarland all over the US and Canada, and will then focus on a slew of fairs and festivals through August. The full itinerary is listed below.
The band members--Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook--are supporting their third album, "A Place to Land," which surfaced in November and reached No. 24 on The Billboard 200. So far, the set has spawned country hit "I'm With the Band," which is streaming at the group's MySpace page.
The new record follows Little Big Town's 2005 platinum-selling breakthrough, "The Road to Here," which was nominated for several Grammy Awards. That set logged four Top 20 hits: "Boondocks," "Bring It On Home," "Good As Gone" and "A Little More You."
Between albums, the bandmates went through a lot of changes; all four got married (Fairchild and Westbrook to one another) and Schlapman and Sweet became parents. The shift in priorities is reflected on "A Place to Land."
"This record is the heart and soul of what we're about," Fairchild commented in the band's bio. "We did a lot of soul searching while making this record. It was a very intense, and very gratifying, experience."
Though Little Big Town has been honored recently as an up-and-coming act, the band is actually celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. After playing and touring together for so song, the members, who share lead vocal duties relatively equally, say their lush harmonies have become second nature.
"I think there's a maturity that comes through because of all the work we've done together," Sweet said. "We've shared so much, and we connect on such a deep level, and you can hear that on this record."
