Steve Winwood adds 'Nine Lives' to already busy year
Steve Winwood , currently in the middle of a three-night New York City reunion with former bandmate Eric Clapton , will release his first studio album in five years in April.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has signed a new deal with Columbia Records to release "Nine Lives," which hits stores April 29. Winwood and Clapton--who played together in '60s rock supergroup Blind Faith--will play the second of their three shows together tonight (2/26) at Madison Square Garden.
In late May, Winwood will head out on the road as the opening act for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' massive summer tour, which kicks off May 30 in Grand Rapids, MI. The trek hits about 40 cities and runs through the end of August. All of the singer's upcoming dates are included below.
"Nine Lives," Winwood's first studio set since 2003's "About Time," comprises nine tracks, including the first single, "Dirty City," which features a guest appearance from Clapton. The song is currently available through iTunes, and can be heard streaming in full on Winwood's website.
Winwood was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic, a group best known for its work in the late '60s and early '70s.
