James Taylor plots big plans for summer

James Taylor has mapped out an impressive summer tour as he takes last year's live CD/DVD, "One Man Band," out for a spin around Europe and North America.

The legendary singer/songwriter, accompanied by his full band for the US and Canadian dates, will kick off the summer trek May 22 in Virginia Beach, VA. The outing, detailed below, will hit more than 30 cities through early August, with a two-week Canadian stretch set for the first part of July.

Taylor's full itinerary for his upcoming European tour, which kicks off next month, can be viewed at his official website.

Last fall Taylor released "One Man Band," which captures a couple of July performances at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA. The CD/DVD collection features new versions of some of Taylor's biggest hits, including "Carolina in My Mind" and "Fire and Rain," interspersed with his anecdotes on the inspiration for the tunes. It also includes exclusive interviews, home movies and personal photographs.

"This set is an intimate retrospective of 40 years worth of songs and the people, places and events that inspired them," Taylor said in a press statement. "I am very grateful to [Director] Don Mischer, [Executive Producer] Sydney Pollack, and [record label] Hear Music for taking great care with what are very personal songs for me and my fans."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has earned five Grammys in a career that spans five decades and boasts sales of more than 40 million albums.
