Sheryl Crow takes mini 'Detour' ahead of major outing

Sheryl Crow is planning a handful of US dates in March and April to warm up for an extensive world tour supporting her new album, "Detours."

Shows include an April 25 headlining slot at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival--Crow's first performance at the event--as well as gigs in Los Angeles; Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK; and several cities in Florida. Details are listed below.

The nine-time Grammy winner dropped her sixth album, "Detours," earlier this month and snagged the No. 2 spot on The Billboard 200. The record marks the return of producer Bill Bottrell, who helmed Crow's 1993 multi-platinum debut, "Tuesday Night Music Club."

Crow's latest effort is a highly personal set of songs inspired by "how I feel things are going in the world and what's happened to me the last couple of years," the singer/songwriter said in a statement. Topics include Crow's very public breakup with Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, her fight with breast cancer, her adoption of a child, the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and environmental issues.

"The theme that runs throughout the album, which is pretty consistent, is that throughout our lives we sometimes go off on journeys that take us off of our planned path--or it takes us far away from who we think we're going to be or want to be," Crow told LiveDaily in a recent interview. "Even as a nation, I think we've seen that happen in the last seven years, just how far away we've gotten from what we were and what this country was meant to be, so politically and even personally, the album thematically is consistent to that idea."

The record's lead single, "Love is Free," pays tribute to New Orleans and its undying optimism following Hurricane Katrina. A sample of that song and others from "Detour" are streaming at Crow's website.

The singer told LiveDaily that she'll start her extensive tour in late May and travel around the world through August or September.

"We're definitely going to try to get over to some places we haven't been in awhile--Japan and certainly Europe and South America," she said.

Meanwhile, fans can catch Crow making the television talk show rounds the week of March 10. She's scheduled to appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Last Call with Carson Daly."
