Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige sell out in several cities
The highly anticipated "Heart of the City Tour" starring Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige has already logged several sellouts ahead of its late March launch, and additional dates are still coming.
The first round of shows went on sale last weekend and, within hours, fans snapped up all the tickets in Baltimore; Uniondale, NY; East Rutherford, NJ; Washington, DC; and Boston, according to a press release from tour promoter Live Nation.
Tickets for the next group of dates, including a newly added performance in Chicago, go on sale Friday (2/22). Citi credit card holders have access to pre-sale tickets beginning today (2/20).
The "Heart of the City Tour," which launches March 22 in Miami, is expected to visit arenas in at least 25 cities in North America. More shows will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release. An updated itinerary is listed below.
The outing will mark Jay-Z's first arena performances since his much-hyped 2004 retirement. Late last year, he mounted a short club tour to support his November release, "American Gangster," which marked his 10th studio effort and 10th No. 1 album.
Blige is backing her ninth studio set, "Growing Pains," which surfaced in December and shot to No. 1 on The Billboard 200, selling more than 800,000 copies its first two weeks out.
Both stars added to their trophy cases following the 50th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this month. Blige's duets with Aretha Franklin ("Never Gonna Break My Faith") and Chaka Khan ("Disrespectful") took honors for Best Gospel Performance and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, respectively, and Jay-Z is featured on Rihanna's hit single "Umbrella," which won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
