Wu-Tang Clan Plots “Underground” Club Tour
Wu-Tang Clan has planned a month-long tour that will take the influential hip-hop collective to clubs in more than 20 cities during July and August. Troubled Wu-Tang member Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who must undergo a court-ordered inpatient drug rehabilitation program, won’t join the rest of the group for the tour.
Dubbed the “Underground” tour, Wu-Tang members RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killah , Inspectah Deck, Masta Killah, Method Man , Raekwon and U-God will participate in the outing, which opens on July 24 in State College, Penn.
Wu-Tang Clan is at work on their third album, which is expected to be in stores before year’s end. The group’s last album was 1997’s 2-CD set “Wu-Tang Forever,” but the members of the group have been tending to their solo careers since its release.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard--after pleading no contest to violating his probation--was sentenced on Friday (6/23) to a 180-day stint in the Los Angeles-area drug treatment center Impact House as an inpatient. ODB’s sentencing came after he underwent a court-ordered 90-day psychological and criminal evaluation by corrections officials at the Los Angeles County jail’s Biscaluz Treatment Center. ODB has been imprisoned or in treatment facilities since March, when he allegedly violated his probation by returning to Los Angeles drunk and possessing alcohol following a New York court appearance.
According to various published reports, ODB worked on some tracks for the forthcoming Wu-Tang Clan release before he was incarcerated.
