Bonnaroo nabs Pearl Jam, Metallica
The current roster of talent for the four-day outdoor event--which takes place June 12-15 this year at its traditional location, a 700-acre farm in Manchester, TN, about 60 miles south of Nashville--also includes Jack Johnson , Robert Plant and Alison Krauss , Willie Nelson , Death Cab for Cutie , Sigur Ros and about 60 other acts.
The full initial lineup for the festival is included below. Organizers expect the list to eventually grow to more than 100 musical acts and 20 comedians, according to a press release, with new names being periodically announced in coming weeks.
Tickets for the event will go on sale to the public starting Feb. 16 exclusively through the Bonnaroo festival's website.
In addition to music and outdoor camping, the event will offer "24 hours of activities," according to organizers, including a comedy theater, cinema festival, jazz club, silent disco, arcade, Internet cafes, restaurants, yoga classes and "high quality craft vendors."
The festival's "comedy tent" will feature Janeane Garofalo, Zach Galifianakis, Mike Birbiglia, Jim Norton, Brian Posehn and David Cross, who will host "Bonnaroo Late Time Chat About," which a press release calls "an original midnight talk show complete with a house band, comic skits and special guests."
Organizers of Bonnaroo (which is Cajun slang for "really good time") have placed an increasing emphasis on environmental awareness since the event's 2002 debut, and have taken steps to reduce or eliminate the environmental impact of the festival. Such measures include diverting 60 percent of the event's waste from landfills last year and replacing more than 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel with bio-diesel, according to a press statement.
