Mae supports 'Singularity' around the world
Modern-rock outfit Mae plans to roam across the US most of the year and will start with a spring tour of clubs and theaters following an overseas jaunt.
The Norfolk, VA-based band is scheduled to play a one-off show this Saturday (2/9) in Williamsburg, VA, before heading out for a three-week tour of Japan and Australia. The guys will then return to their home state March 15 to kick off their US run, which stops in cities from coast to coast through late April and features special guests The Honorary Title, Between the Trees and Far-Less. Stateside gigs are listed below and overseas dates can be found at Mae's website.
The bandmates--singer/guitarist Dave Elkins, drummer Jacob Marshall and guitarist Zach Gehring (bassist Mark Padgett and keyboardist Rob Sweitzer recently exited the group)--are supporting their third album, "Singularity," which surfaced in August and reached No. 40 on The Billboard 200. With the help of producer Howard Benson, they were able to capture a livelier sound than that heard on their previous efforts.
"In the past, we've never quite captured things the way we wanted to, so there was a very concerted effort to do that this time," Marshall said in a statement.
Elkins added that "Singularity" exemplifies Mae's growth over the years, and is the best collection of material the band has written to date.
"The five of us understand each other's strengths and weaknesses now more than ever, and over the past couple years, that momentum has continued to change and grow our band in really positive ways," the frontman said.
On tour, Mae will also revisit its 2003 debut, "Destination: Beautiful," to celebrate the album's five-year anniversary. The band is asking fans to go to its MySpace page to vote for the songs they'd like to hear.
