Ace Frehley comes alive for headlining tour
Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley looks to jump-start his solo career with a headlining trek behind rumors of his first new album in almost 20 years.
Frehley and his new live band--Derrek Hawkins (guitar), Anthony Esposito (bass) and Scot Coogan (drums)--will kick off the run Feb. 20 in Baltimore. The outing will hit 30 cities through early April; dates are below.
Frehley, who hasn't released a solo album since 1990's "Trouble Walkin'," and who played his first live show in six years last October, recently told syndicated radio host Eddie Trunk that he was working on a new album for release early this year.
"I haven't put out a solo album in a long time," he said in a press statement announcing his upcoming tour, "and I made sure this one is special."
Although Frehley has stayed mostly out of the public's eye since his final performance with KISS in 2002, the reclusive guitarist has been creeping back into the spotlight in recent years. Frehley appeared with Rob Zombie, Slash, Tommy Lee, Scott Ian and Gilby Clarke on VH1's "Rock Honors" program in 2006, and was featured last year in a Zach Braff-directed Dunkin' Donuts commercial, appearing as himself in full KISS makeup and costume.
