Tom Petty confirms US summer tour dates
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will make at least one more lap around the live circuit after all, as the singer and his band announce dates for a major US summer tour.
The rocker--who told a magazine interviewer last year that his 2007 dates could be his last--will kick off a 36-city trek May 30 in Grand Rapids, MI. The tour will cover parts of four months and run through a late-August date outside of Houston. The complete schedule is below.
Pre-sales to Petty's fan club will begin Jan. 30, with club members getting first shot at up to 1,500 premium seats that will be set aside for each show. More information can be found at Petty's website.
Petty--who, along with his crew, will provide the halftime musical entertainment at Feb. 3's Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, AZ--toured last year to support "Highway Companion," his third solo release and 18th overall career album. The set debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200, making it the singer/songwriter's highest-ever chart debut.
Aside from hosting his XM Satellite Radio show, "Tom Petty 's Hidden Treasures," the singer recently reformed his pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch with old bandmates Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh, along with longtime Heartbreakers Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell. The fivesome recorded material for a new album that is expected to hit stores sometime this year.
Over the past three decades, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have sold more than 50 million records. Between his work with the band and his solo efforts, Petty has picked up 18 Grammy nominations. He and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, which was the first year they were eligible for the honor.
