Foo Fighters hit the trail this week
The Foo Fighters have added a few more US dates to their North American tour ahead of its Wednesday (1/16) launch in Sunrise, FL.
The Grammy-winning rockers will traverse the country, with recently added stops in Binghamton, NY, and San Diego, CA, as well as a two-night stateside finale March 5-6 in Los Angeles. The group will then cross over to Canada for an eight-date run through the end of March, and take a brief break before heading overseas in mid-April for shows in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The band will also be in London June 6-7 for a couple of sold-out shows that will feature the largest rock production to date at the new Wembley Stadium, according its website.
Florida punk quartet Against Me!, which landed on several "best of 2007" lists with its July debut, "New Wave," has been tapped to open the US shows. North American dates are listed below and overseas gigs can be found at the Foo Fighters ' website.
Last month, the Foo Fighters scored five Grammy nominations for their sixth studio effort, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," which surfaced in September. The set is up for "Album of the Year" and "Best Rock Album," while lead single "The Pretender" is vying for "Record of the Year," "Best Hard Rock Performance" and "Best Rock Song."
The band is scheduled to perform "The Pretender" at the 50th annual Grammy ceremony Feb. 10 and is holding a contest to find musicians to play in an orchestra that will back the Foo Fighters that night. The grand-prize winner will get to perform a solo, according to details listed at the rockers' website.
"Echoes" follows the Foo Fighters' 2005 platinum-selling double-album, "In Your Honor," which spawned the No. 1 mainstream- and modern-rock hit "Best of You" and led to the band's biggest-selling tour to date, according to a press release.
