Jose Gonzalez goes green on spring tour

Singer/songwriter Jose Gonzalez will go eco-friendly on his upcoming North American tour as he continues to support his recently released second album, "In Our Nature."

The Swedish native--Gonzalez is the son of Argentinean parents-- is partnering with the non-profit organization Reverb for the greening of the upcoming outing, which kicks off March 1 in Orlando, FL.

Gonzalez's road crew will be issuing reusable water bottles as part of the environmentally conscious effort, and Gonzalez and Reverb will calculate the CO2 footprint of the undertaking--from venue energy use to transportation emissions--and work to neutralize it by supporting alternative energy solutions on the tour, according to a press release.

Tickets for the outing--which will hit 26 cities throughout March--will include a 50-cent surcharge to help offset Reverb's environmental efforts. All dates for the trek are included below.

Released in September, "In Our Nature" is the singer's long-awaited follow-up to his 2003 debut album, "Veneer," which gained attention in the US after the inclusion of its song "Crosses" on 2005's season-ending episode of the television series "The O.C." The set was subsequently reissued later that year, and an EP, "Stay in the Shade," followed last January.

Gonzales said in a message posted at his website that he "didn't want to write about love" on the new album, but instead sought to "find other, though equally universal, themes for the songs," adding that he drew inspiration for the new songs from reading "The God Delusion" by British evolutionary botanist Richard Dawkins.

"But the lyrics are far from biological, I'd like to point that out," Gonzalez added. "It's mainly the theme that interests me."
