Britney released from hospital, loses custody of kids

Britney Spears --who was hospitalized late last week following a stand-off in her ongoing custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline--was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Saturday (1/5), according to published reports.

Prior to her release, Spears received a visit from well-known television psychologist Phil McGraw, who, following his visit, told The New York Times: "My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention."

Last Thursday, an ambulance transported Spears from her home to the hospital after police--who responded to her residence following a report of a domestic dispute--deemed her to be under the influence of an unknown substance. The incident reportedly stemmed from Spears' alleged refusal to release her sons--Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1--to Federline's bodyguards, who had arrived at Spears' home to pick the children up following their visit with Spears, which reportedly was due to run from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m.

On Friday (1/4), a court commissioner suspended Spears' visitation rights and awarded sole physical and legal custody of the children to Federline, according to The New York Times. A new hearing on the matter is now scheduled for Jan. 14, the paper reported.
