Jill Scott preps for 'The Real Thing' tour

Singer/poet/actress Jill Scott has mapped out a US tour to support her latest album, "The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3."

The 12-city trek is scheduled to launch Feb. 5 in Seattle and travel along the West Coast through mid-month before heading to the South and East Coast. Two-night stands are booked in Memphis and Oakland, CA. Details are listed below.

"The Real Thing," Scott's third studio effort, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 4 in early October and recently scored a couple of Grammy nominations. The singer has described the R&B/soul/jazz-influenced set as a sequel to 2004's Grammy-winning "Beautifully Human."

"I thought the last album was more peaceful, an affirmation," Scott explained in a statement. "On the new record, I feel aggressive about what I want, need and desire and you can hear it in my vocal choices, in the tracks ... it's grittier, sassier than the last one. I'm feeling gutsier, I'm feeling much more bold, free."

A few tracks from the new album, including singles "Hate on Me" and "My Love," are streaming at Scott's MySpace page.

Earlier this year, the performer also released "Jill Scott Collaborations," which features many of her collaborative efforts over the past six years, including her work with Will Smith, Sergio Mendes and Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas.

Scott has also been keeping busy with her acting career, recently having landed her first starring role in the Tyler Perry film "Why Did I Get Married?," which hit movie theaters in October. The North Philadelphia native will also star in Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella's forthcoming film, "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency," which was shot in Botswana, Africa, over the summer.
