Van Halen unveils early 2008 tour leg
After days of dishing out 2008 tour dates in bite-sized portions, classic rockers Van Halen have served up a comprehensive itinerary for their semi-reunion tour's second leg.
The group has rolled out a schedule that begins with a previously announced Jan. 22 show in Oklahoma City and now includes stops in about 30 cities through early April. Tickets for about a dozen of those shows will hit the box office this coming Saturday (12/1) and next Monday (12/3). Details are included in the itinerary shown below.
Additional on-sale dates will be announced soon, and more 2008 concert dates are also expected, according to the band's camp. Meanwhile, the band's current round of shows continues tonight (11/27) with a performance in Sacramento, CA.
After several years of inactivity, Van Halen returned to the road in late September for its first tour in 22 years with original frontman David Lee Roth. The outing--which features a nostalgic setlist comprised solely of songs released during Roth's original 1978-1984 stint with the group--has drawn more than 600,000 fans thus far, according to a press release.
Despite Roths' return, the outing falls short of being a full-fledged reunion of the band's original lineup; prior to setting out on tour, the band's namesake brother duo--Alex and Eddie Van Halen--bounced founding bassist Michael Anthony in favor of Eddie's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen.
Earlier this year, Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anthony and former vocalist Sammy Hagar were the only two members to attend the ceremony; Eddie Van Halen was in a rehab facility at the time, and Alex and Roth chose to bow out.
Hagar, Anthony and Hagar's backing band, The Wabos, are in the midst of their own 60-date tour, which launched last month and is slated to run until July of next year.
