Casting Crowns open 'The Door' to next year
The Grammy-winning group will wrap up its current trek this weekend and then start up again Jan. 31 in Oklahoma City, OK. So far, it has a short run of February dates lined up in Texas, Florida and Massachusetts. The band is also set to sail on the Music Boat 2008 Cruise with a host of Christian artists including TobyMac and Matthew West. The four-day cruise leaves from Miami May 19 and visits Key West and Calica, Mexico. Casting Crowns' full itinerary is listed below.
The band is currently riding high on the success of its third album, "The Altar and The Door," which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 in August, setting a new record for a Christian artist without crossover promotion in the mainstream market. The set has since been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
"The Altar and The Door" has remained at No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart for the past 12 weeks and the single "East to West" continues to hold the top spot at Christian AC radio after 21 weeks. A couple of tunes from the record are streaming at Casting Crowns' MySpace page.
The band also won kudos from the recent fan-voted American Music Awards, picking up the trophy for Favorite Artist in the Contemporary Inspirational category.
During its four-year career, Casting Crowns has collected two platinum-album certifications and won multiple Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association. The band is the most-played artist on all Christian radio formats combined, with seven consecutive No. 1 AC radio hits, according to a press release.
Despite their success, the seven members of Casting Crowns remain part-time musicians, touring around their local church duties in the Atlanta area. Lead singer and songwriter Mark Hall is serving his 17th year as youth minister at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church.
